Health & Safety Officer

Job Description

This position is responsible for directing company safety and environmental training programs in conjunction with management. Safety programs include yet are not limited to the handling of hazardous materials, emergency response, and providing safety advice and counsel to managers and others. This position is also responsible for the development, procuring and implementing of Health and Safety training plans, strategies and processes to support company organizational goals; including execution training programs relative to new hires. Contractors and Visitors. Conduct reoccurring training of staff and Port Users on an on-going basis and in the manner prescribed in the organization’s Safety Plan and in compliance with IMDG Code and best practices globally. The position also requires safety audits of the facility, processes and equipment, accident investigation and implementation of corrective measures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    5 to 7 years of relevant work experience in the following:
  • Worked with senior management to ensure organization’s OSH compliance
  • Designed and implemented OSH programs
  • Managed OSH programs at an industrial facility or multiple facilities
  • Conducted site inspections and audits
  • Dealt with regulatory requirements (i.e. Fire Code, Statute Law, others)
  • Managed emergency response incidents
  • Implemented corrective actions
  • Conducted or lead training in applicable OSH areas
  • Evaluated programs, issued recommendations and implemented changes
  • Interacted with senior management
  • Liaised with all other functional first line management and supervision
  • Created and managed budget for OSH activities.
  • Participated in tactical planning and support of corporate OSH initiatives

  • 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health
  • OSH
  • from an accredited college or university; or
  • 2 year degree in OSH and 10 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory Safety role
  • Safety Certification a plus
  • Bahamian Citizenship

  • Able to work for long periods of time standing
  • Able to lift 50-75 pounds
  • Able to climb, bend, squat
  • Able to work outdoors
  • Able to work in inclement weather
