Real-time Weather Information

Weather planning is essential in today’s marine industry. From preparing for storms to making confident business decisions about future shipments, accurate weather forecasting is paramount to a smooth-sailing operation.

Now the Nassau Container Port is introducing a free subscription Weather Forecasting Service on its website that will help shippers with accurate medium and long-range weather forecasting. The service will also assist NCP in anticipating operational impact due to weather.

Unlike many weather services that forecast for a few hours or a few days, the NCP service looks weeks, into the future and provides information on seasonal weather trends.

The service will also provide daily marine forecasts year-round, focusing on the Caribbean and Atlantic and will provide extensive visual detail and information pertaining to weather conditions in The Bahamas.

“We can now help shippers plan for future shipments, not just the shipment arriving tomorrow,” said Michael Maura Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer for APD Limited, which owns and operates the Nassau Container Port.

The forecasts use information from several storm forecasting services to include The National Hurricane Center, European Model, Global Forecast System (GFS), Canadian Meteorological Centre (CMC) and The Bahamas Department of Meteorology. The seasonal outlook will provide a clear look at the expected impact of the upcoming hurricane season, along with details on which locations are most likely to be impacted by tropical weather. Subscribers can also see details about temperature and precipitation as well as wave height and wave direction.

The weather service is led by over 30 years of experience from Chief Forecaster Joe Bastardi who has earned a reputation for unparalleled insight and analysis of future weather and whose reputation for accurate forecasts has led to appearances on various major television programs in the United States.
