NCP 'Ready to Service World'

In the push to make the Bahamas the Caribbean hub for global shipping, the Nassau Container Port is fast becoming a key facility for container and general cargo shipping in the region.

This year, NCP has found itself as a topic of discussion in widely circulated publications from the London Times to China Daily, where the Port has been touted as a critical transportation link with unlimited potential in the future.

"Container volumes could double overnight and the port is capable of meeting this demand," Mike Maura Jr., CEO of APD Limited, told China Daily. "The Nassau Container Port stands ready to service the world."

In the London Times, Mr. Maura stressed how moving commercial shipping from downtown Nassau to Arawak Cay dramatically improves opportunities for shippers.

He explained that the Port’s three terminals – a container terminal, a bulk terminal and break-bulk terminal — can now handle ships with a draft up to 28 feet, allowing more shippers to bring in bigger vessels and benefit from faster turnaround that reduces their cost of shipping.

Thanks in part to NCP's expanding global reach — and capability to handle increasing volumes of container traffic — the Port has tripled revenues in the last year, with expectations of tremendous growth in the years ahead, Mr. Maura said.
